My next destination after Bahrain is, Azerbaijan (Baku). Baku is the city, capital of Azerbaijan part of the three caucasus countries I will be visiting this year. The name Baku is possibly a contraction of the Persian bad kube (“blown upon by mountain winds”). Baku derives its importance from its oil industry and its administrative functions (Source: britannica, n.d.)
I had to say that, I learned and explored so much of their histories and cultures. Some of it was pretty surreal to witness and to experience. Let’s dive right into it!
DAY 1
Ibis Baku City Hotel
Checked in to my hotel to settle down my belongings before heading out.
The hotel has a wide selection of food and they taste amazing too!
I have noticed the tagline on the mineral water, “Karabakh is Azerbaijan”. It is because Karabakh has a lot of Armenians, however the region is an enclave inside Azerbaijan, so Azerbaijan attacked and occupied it since 2019.
Say hello to my beautiful tour guide, she will be bringing me around for the day. We had an amazing time touring and taking photos.
Maiden Tower (Baku)
The Maiden Tower is the oldest structure in Baku’s old walled city. No one knows the meaning or purpose of why it was built but it has become the symbol of Azerbaijan capital city and even appears on the national currency, the Azerbaijani manat (Source: atlasobscura, n.d.).
A wall painting in old city Baku, “The Eyes of Lion”.
National Park of Baku
The Baku Ferris Wheel, is also known as the Baku Eye and Devil’s Wheel, is a ferris wheel on Baku Boulevard in the Seaside National Park of Baku, capital of Azerbaijan.
Novxani Restaurant
Had our lunch at Novxani and the food was great! See you in Day 2!
