DAY 2

Qal’at Al-Bahrain Site Museum

This is built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, part of the Unesco World Heritage site. It is a former Portuguese military fortification in Manama, Bahrain. It is believed that it was once the capital of the ancient Dilmun Empire. The excavations revealed streets, residential structures and monuments from 2300 BC surrounded by a protective wall. Humans have continuously inhabited this site since 2300 BC to 18th century. The site was only rediscovered in 1954. Restoration began in 1987 (Source: lonelyplanet, n.d., Bate, 2021).

Picture you see above is the tomb site where the deceased were buried.

The museum is founded in 1988 and is the largest and one of the oldest public museums. It exhibits the lifestyle of Bahrain’s pre industrial past and it aims to enhance the understanding and work by Bahrain’s history as well as promote global culture within the local community (Source: sothebys, n.d.).
